(There is no life without water)
The vision of the Friends of the Upper Annalee is to protect our precious water sources so that the rivers and lakes in the Erne sub-catchment of the Upper (East) Annalee River (WFD Annalee SC_010) are restored to their natural states, made healthy and biodiverse and resilient to future change so as to support and sustain vibrant and prosperous communities.
We will work to monitor, conserve, protect, enhance and restore our rivers, lakes, groundwater, wetlands and their surrounding environments within the Monaghan and Cavan catchment.
We will work to ensure our drinking water sources are protected, and that drinking water supplies are safe, wholesome and clean.
We will endeavour to inspire, inform and educate all who live, work and visit the region about our water ecology and the role we can all play in its protection and improvement.
We will advocate for the natural environment, and in recognising the history of the region we will help to preserve its rich natural, built, cultural and social heritage.
We aim to help ensure our water environments and communities are more resilient to climate change.
We will support sustainable recreation on our waterways that provide benefits for the environment, our communities and local economy.
The Friends will work closely with relevant local authorities and statutory agencies, responsible for the regulation and protection of the environment, ensuring that its work is undertaken to the highest standard and in line with regulatory requirements.
